A Nigerian national, Emmanuel Onwubiko, has been sentenced to two years in prison in the United Kingdom after being found guilty of inappropriate conduct involving a teenage colleague.
The 36-year-old was convicted on five counts related to misconduct, following a trial that concluded at Liverpool Crown Court in May 2025.
His sentencing took place on June 13, during which the court also ordered that he remain on the UK’s offenders’ registry for a period of 10 years.
The incident occurred on January 1, 2024, at a care facility in Warrington where Onwubiko was working on an agency basis.
According to court proceedings, the teenage staff member reported repeated unwanted interactions during their shift.
The court heard that Onwubiko made unsolicited remarks and physical contact that made the young colleague uncomfortable.
Judge Gary Woodhall, while delivering the sentence, described Onwubiko’s actions as persistent and inappropriate, noting that the defendant attempted to rationalize his behavior by referring to cultural differences.
The court also acknowledged the emotional impact the incident had on the young worker, including ongoing distress that led her to seek emotional and spiritual support.
In a related development, the victim’s father, upon learning of the incident, reacted by confronting Onwubiko. The situation resulted in serious injuries to the defendant and led to separate legal proceedings.
The father later received a suspended sentence and community service.
