A 40-year-old Nigerian woman, Omotayo Abioye, has died in the United Kingdom following a prolonged battle with breast cancer, leaving behind her three children.
Her death was announced on Friday in a post on X by Benjamin Kuti, also known as Oluomo of Derby and a former president of the Nigerian community in the UK.
Kuti said Abioye died on Sunday, April 5, 2026, describing her as a devoted mother whose three children aged 11, nine and seven were her greatest source of pride.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, Omotayo Abioye, who departed this life after a courageous battle with breast cancer,” he wrote.
He described the deceased as a warm, lively and generous woman whose personality left a lasting impression on those around her.
According to him, Abioye was known for her cheerful disposition, love for people, and ability to bring others together through her vibrant spirit.
Kuti also noted that she remained strong in faith throughout her illness, demonstrating resilience and hope despite her health challenges.
He said efforts had begun within the Nigerian community in the UK to support her family, particularly her children, and to ensure she receives a dignified burial.
A fundraising campaign has also been launched to assist with funeral arrangements and provide support for the children left behind.
Community members have continued to express condolences, describing her death as a painful loss and calling for solidarity with her family during this difficult period.
