Nigerian nabbed in Poland for fake residence card

A 26-year-old Nigerian whose name was not made public, has been arrested in Krakow, Poland, after he attempted to validate his stay in the country with a forged residence card.

The suspect, who had only been in Poland for four days, reportedly admitted that he bought the fake document online while in the United Kingdom.

According to a local Polish news outlet, “the man admitted that he ordered the document online while still in the UK, received it by post, and paid €2,000 for it.”

Investigations revealed that the Nigerian had no legal basis to remain in Poland.

Following his arrest, the Commander of the Border Guard directed that he leave the country within 20 days.

He was also handed a three-year ban from entering the Schengen Area.

He was subsequently charged under Article 270 § 1 of the Penal Code, which prescribes punishment for the use of counterfeit documents.

“The man pleaded guilty and voluntarily submitted to the penalty, but declined to provide further explanation,” the report added.
