A 46-year-old Nigerian man has died after being shot aboard a GO Transit bus at the Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal, Toronto police said, as investigators pressed ahead with a homicide probe.
Police said officers were called to the terminal near Yorkdale Road and Allen Road at about 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2026, following reports of gunfire.
Investigators said both the victim and the suspect boarded the same bus at the terminal, and that the assailant fired at the victim before fleeing on foot.
Responding officers located the wounded man and attempted life-saving treatment, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The deceased has been identified as Osemwengie Irorere, 46, a Nigerian national.
A short time after the shooting, police arrested a suspect and recovered a firearm.
The arrested man, named by investigators as Tyrel Gibson, 40, of Toronto, has been charged with first-degree murder.
Police said Gibson was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. in room 105.
The Toronto Police Service described the matter as an active homicide investigation and said inquiries are ongoing.
