A Nigerian student, Khaleed Oladipo, has been stabbed to death in the United Kingdom, sparking grief among family members and the Nigerian community.
Oladipo, a 20-year-old cyber security student of De Montfort University, Leicester, reportedly died in hospital after sustaining a stab wound to the chest on Tuesday.
Leicestershire Police, in a statement on Thursday, said the incident occurred on Oxford Street, close to the university campus.
The police disclosed that an 18-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the killing and is currently in custody, adding that investigations are ongoing.
In a tribute, Oladipo’s family described him as a good and loving son with a deep passion for football.
They said he had played football since the age of four and was a devoted Arsenal supporter, noting that he was believed to be on his way home to watch a match when he was attacked.
While calling for justice, the family expressed appreciation to the police for their efforts so far, saying they were struggling to understand the motive behind the killing.
“Getting justice for Khaleed will not bring him back, but we will make sure that he gets the justice he deserves,” the family added.
