Nigerian trio shine as racing Genk thrash Gent 4-1

Three Nigerian attackers, including Tolu Arokodare, were instrumental in Racing Genk’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Gent at the Planet Group Arena on Sunday evening.

Yira Collins Sor, a former Flying Eagles winger, cancelled out Dante Vanzeir’s ninth-minute opener for Gent, drawing Genk level early in the contest.

Genk then took the lead before halftime, courtesy of an own goal by Mohamed Soumah.

The advantage was further extended in the 70th minute when Belgium U21 star with Nigerian heritage, Noah Adedeji-Sternberg, netted the third goal for the visitors.

Tolu Arokodare put the icing on the cake just two minutes before the final whistle, coolly finishing past Gent goalkeeper Tom Vandenberghe to end his recent goal drought.

Before Sunday’s game, Arokodare had gone three consecutive matches without scoring, failing to register a goal against Union St Gilloise, Club Brugge, and Royal Antwerp.

With this latest strike, the Super Eagles striker now boasts 23 goals and seven assists from 44 appearances in all competitions this season.

Arokodare’s fine form has reportedly attracted attention from several top clubs across Europe’s elite leagues, casting uncertainty over his future at Genk.

He will be looking to wrap up the season on a high note—and potentially clinch the Jupiler Pro League Golden Boot—when Genk host Anderlecht next weekend.
