Nigerians in UK urged to prioritise health following spate of community deaths

The Nigerian diaspora in the United Kingdom has been urged to take their health seriously following the recent deaths of several members of the community.

Benjamin Kuti, also known as Oluomo of Derby on X (formerly Twitter), sounded the alarm in a post highlighting that over six Nigerians have died in the UK this year, while two others remain hospitalised with serious illnesses.

In a post sighted of Diaspora NG on X, Kuti described the situation as a sober reminder of the fragility of life and warned against allowing stress, pressure, or the pursuit of success to compromise personal wellbeing. “No hustle, no struggle, no expectation is worth your health,” he wrote.

He encouraged members of the community to undergo full medical check-ups, noting that many serious health conditions show no symptoms until it is too late. “Early discovery can truly save lives,” he emphasised.

The Nigerian community leader also highlighted the lack of life insurance among many diaspora members, urging individuals to protect their families against unforeseen circumstances. He explained that life insurance plans can start from as little as £10–£25 per month, a small investment that could make a significant difference for loved ones left behind.

Kuti called on Nigerians in the UK to look out for one another, stressing that “your life matters. Your health matters.”

His message has resonated with many in the diaspora, serving as a timely reminder of the importance of health awareness and financial preparedness.
