As hostilities between Iran and Israel continue to escalate, a number of Nigerians currently stuck in Tehran have alleged that officials at the Nigerian Embassy have deserted them during the crisis.
A video circulating widely on social media shows a Nigerian man standing outside the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, expressing frustration over what he described as the embassy’s failure to respond to the needs of its citizens during a critical moment.
In the footage, the man voices concern over the absence of embassy staff despite public warnings about potential evacuations from the Iranian capital.
“We are Nigerians. We came to the Nigerian Embassy here in Tehran in response to the evacuation notice issued due to the current situation,” he said. “But when we arrived, there was no one—no staff, no ambassador. Nigerians have been left on their own.”
According to him, not a single official was present to provide assistance or even offer information about evacuation procedures.
“They’ve completely abandoned Nigerian citizens here in Tehran. That’s why we’re recording this video—so it can reach the public and the government. The Nigerian government has abandoned its people in Iran. All the embassy officials have gone,” he lamented.
The man further alleged that the embassy personnel had fled the city, seeking refuge elsewhere.
“We heard reliably that they’ve all relocated to an island for safety. That’s where they are now,” he added.
