Ottuduoma takes helm as Nigerian Diaspora President in Gambia

Nigerians living in Gambia witnessed a new chapter in diaspora leadership as Mr. Great Akah Ottuduoma was officially unveiled as the new President of the Nigerian Diaspora Charter.

His emergence comes after more than a decade of active service and leadership within the Nigerian community in the West African country.

To mark his inauguration, President Ottuduoma organized a landmark event, the first ever Afro Festival at Westfield in Serekunda.

The colourful celebration brought together hundreds of Nigerians and other Africans in what many have described as a cultural renaissance for the Nigerian community in The Gambia.

The Afro Festival, rich in music, dance, comedy, and cultural displays, was attended by prominent figures including Oba Moshood KB Abolade Ariwajoye, the traditional ruler of the Yoruba community in Gambia.

Also in attendance were traditional leaders, artists, comedians, and emerging talents from across the Nigerian diaspora.

In his remarks, President Ottuduoma encouraged Nigerian youth in The Gambia to embrace their roots and pursue excellence in every sphere.

“Our young people are full of potential. They must excel in everything they do and never forget where they come from,” he said.

In an exclusive interview with The VOICE Newspaper, Ottuduoma outlined his administration’s priorities, chief among them resolving the long standing issue of documentation and legal identity for Nigerians living in The Gambia.

“For years, many Nigerians here have faced the burden of traveling to Senegal just to complete biometric registration,” he said.

“By July, we will bring the biometric capture machine to The Gambia. This will eliminate unnecessary stress and financial costs, making the process easier and more accessible for everyone.”

When asked about the inspiration behind the Afro Festival, President Ottuduoma explained that the event was more than a cultural showcase, it was a statement of identity and purpose.

“This festival isn’t just about entertainment, It’s about creating a platform for our youth to express themselves, to unite the community, and to celebrate who we are as Nigerians. We are talented, resilient, and proud of our heritage.”

On the issue of division along tribal and ethnic lines, Ottuduoma pledged that his leadership would promote inclusiveness and unity.

“Our administration reflects the true diversity of Nigeria. We have people from every region and background working together. There is no room for tribalism or division in the community we are building here,” he affirmed.
