Outrage as Ireland-based Nigerian dancer suffers severe eye injury in road-rage assault

A Nigerian dancer living in the Republic of Ireland, Tobi Omoteso, has been left battling serious and potentially irreversible vision damage following a violent road-rage incident in Limerick.

Omoteso, a well-known breaker and hip-hop performer admired for his community-driven initiatives, was reportedly attacked on Saturday while on his way to the Top 8 Street Dance and Hip-hop Festival.

The victim disclosed that the confrontation began after a brief disagreement with another driver over traffic obstruction.

Although he admitted reacting to an offensive gesture, he alleged that the motorist pursued and later targeted him.

He recounted that the suspect intercepted his vehicle, stepped out armed with a bat, and smashed the windows of his car, sending shattered glass into his face and eyes.

The attack left him with multiple injuries, including deep cuts to his hands and face, as well as critical damage to one eye after glass fragments penetrated it.

Medical intervention revealed that his iris was severely torn and required delicate surgical repair.

He added that he is expected to undergo several operations in an effort to regain partial vision.

Omoteso confirmed receiving treatment at St. John’s Hospital and University Hospital Limerick, noting that the injury has already caused lasting impairment that could affect his dancing career.

The incident has since triggered an outpouring of public support, with a fundraising campaign raising over €62,000 to assist with his mounting medical expenses.

Meanwhile, Ireland’s police authority, the Gardaí, said it has commenced an investigation into the attack, confirming that a man in his 30s sustained serious injuries and that a vehicle was damaged during the incident.
