Passenger plane with 49 people onboard crashes in Russia

A passenger plane with 49 people on board has crashed in the Amur region of eastern Russia, local authorities reported on Thursday.

The aircraft, identified as an Antonov 24 operated by Angara Airlines, was traveling from the city of Blagoveshchensk to Tynda when it lost contact with air traffic control, according to a statement from regional governor Vassily Orlov on Telegram.

Rescue teams later spotted the remains of the aircraft burning on a remote mountain slope, around 16 kilometers from Tynda.

Emergency responders said no survivors were visible from the air.

The region’s civil defense agency confirmed that response efforts were ongoing.

“At present, 25 rescue workers and five vehicles are at the crash location, while four more aircraft are prepared to assist,” the agency said.

Although there has been no official confirmation of casualties, authorities fear that all passengers may have perished in the crash.
