A Nigerian professional, identified as Dami O, has narrated how an alleged visa error by the Swedish Embassy prevented him from attending a conference in Sweden despite completing all travel arrangements.
Dami O shared his experience in a post on X, formerly Twitter, saying he had applied for the visa to travel with colleagues for a December conference.
While his colleagues holding foreign passports faced no hurdles, he said his Nigerian passport subjected him to a lengthy and costly process.
According to him, he paid about £200 for the visa application, booked a hotel from December 27 to 31, and purchased flight tickets, bringing his total expenses to about £600.
He said all preparations were completed and his bags packed when the Swedish Embassy returned his passport with a visa scheduled to commence on February 28, 2026, several months after the conference would have ended.
The development effectively ruled him out of the December conference, even though he was issued a valid visa for a later date.
Dami O described the incident as a stark reminder of the difficulties Nigerian passport holders face when travelling for professional engagements abroad.
