A Nigerian woman trapped in Libya has appealed to the Federal Government and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) for urgent intervention to enable her return home.
The distraught woman made her plea in a viral video on Tuesday, where she was seen in tears, pleading for assistance and expressing fears for her safety.
Speaking in English and Yoruba, she said her undocumented status had made her vulnerable in the North African country.
“If help does not come soon, I may be arrested by the Libyan authorities and sent to prison,” she said, describing the constant fear she lives under.
She explained that security forces frequently raid her area and arrest undocumented migrants.
“I am hiding now, but every time security operatives come, I fear they will find me. I need to return to Nigeria before it is too late,” she said.
Her video has continued to circulate on social media, sparking fresh calls for NiDCOM and the Foreign Affairs Ministry to act swiftly.
