Talent isn’t Super Eagles’ issue, we’ve two of Africa’s best – Wilfred Ndidi

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has voiced confidence in the quality of Nigeria’s national team, emphasizing that the squad boasts some of the continent’s top players.

While Ndidi didn’t directly name the two African stars he praised, many believe he was referring to Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman.

Both players have delivered impressive performances recently, with Osimhen earning the African Footballer of the Year award in 2023, and Lookman being recognized as one of Africa’s standout talents through his displays at club and international levels.

Despite such individual excellence, the Super Eagles have faced challenges turning these talents into consistent team success.

Nigeria last won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 and missed out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Their quest for qualification to the 2026 World Cup is also precarious, currently trailing group leaders South Africa by six points with only four matches remaining.

As expectations rise, Ndidi insists that the team’s problem isn’t a lack of skill but rather the need for stronger unity and teamwork.

Speaking to Proudly Austin, he said, “We have amazing talents, including two of the best African players. The key now is to play together as a team, not just rely on individual brilliance. We must support each other and work collectively.”

With World Cup qualifiers set to resume, Ndidi remains optimistic but insists that teamwork will be crucial if the Super Eagles are to secure their spot on the global stage.
