UK-based lawyer warns Nigerians in U.S against clubbing amid immigration crackdown

A UK-based Nigerian lawyer, Dele Olawanle, has issued warning to undocumented Nigerians residing in the United States to avoid nightclubs and other high-risk venues amid increasing immigration enforcement.

In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account and sighted by Diaspora NG, Olawanle cautioned against engaging in public activities that could expose undocumented individuals to immigration raids.

“May you not dance from the club in America to Oshodi in Lagos,” he wrote.

“If you have no status, stop going to clubs and other risky places in America for now.”

His comments were in reaction to a viral video circulating on social media showing United States immigration officers stationed outside a Nigerian-owned club, reportedly checking the immigration status of patrons as they exited the venue.

The post has since stirred widespread discussion online, with many Nigerians at home and abroad expressing concern over what appears to be a heightened clampdown on immigrants with unresolved legal status in the U.S.

While U.S immigration officials have not issued any formal statement about the specific incident, recent policy shifts have seen stricter enforcement actions targeting undocumented individuals.
