A United States based Nigerian political commentator and social media influencer, David Emamuzou Uyeh, has petitioned the Nigeria Police Force over an alleged plot to assassinate his aged mother and other members of his family.
In the petition, filed through his legal representatives, James Ogwor and Associates, on October 3, 2025, Uyeh alleged that some individuals, suspected to be politically motivated, had issued threats against his family because of his online commentaries on national issues.
The petition stated that Uyeh’s frequent social media posts on insecurity in Nigeria, especially terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry, may have provoked certain political loyalists.
It further alleged that what began as online harassment had now escalated into physical intimidation of his relatives.
The most alarming incident, according to the petition, occurred on October 1, 2025, when a group of masked, armed men allegedly stormed the Uyeh family home, threatened his elderly mother, and vowed to burn down the house and harm family members unless David Uyeh stopped commenting on national issues.
The attackers reportedly mentioned specific family members by name including Uyeh Agnes (mother), Peter Akwevagbe Uyeh, Uyeh Joshua Ajiri, and Mrs. Sammy Okposin Deborah (née Uyeh) to show that the threat was deliberate and coordinated.
Uyeh’s mother was said to have been left traumatized by the experience and now lives in constant fear.
The development has reportedly plunged the family into distress, prompting appeals for immediate police intervention.
Following the incident, Mr. Peter Uyeh, David’s brother, lodged a complaint at B Division Police Station, Okumagba Avenue, Warri, on October 2, 2025.
The family’s legal team also called on the Inspector General of Police, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, and the Area Commander in Warri to investigate the matter and ensure the family’s safety.
In the petition, Uyeh’s lawyers described their client as a law abiding citizen exercising his constitutional right to freedom of speech.
They urged the police to identify and prosecute those behind the threats, warning that attacks on citizens for expressing opinions undermine democracy and freedom of expression.
A member of the Delta State Civil Rights Network condemned the situation, calling it “a disturbing trend that discourages public participation in national discourse,” and appealed to police authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation.
As investigations begin, the Uyeh family remains on edge, while observers hope the police will act swiftly to prevent further intimidation and bring the culprits to justice.
Efforts to reach the Delta State Police Command for comment were unsuccessful as of press time.
