Video: Man raises alarm over rising relationship conflicts among Nigerians in UK

A video posted on X (formerly Twitter) and sighted by Diaspora NG has triggered widespread debate after a Nigerian man narrated a series of troubling incidents involving couples living in the United Kingdom.

In the viral clip, the speaker claimed that many Nigerians in the diaspora were facing increasing relationship pressure, financial disagreements and allegations of domestic misconduct linked to rising living costs abroad.

The man in the video began by recounting a recent phone conversation with a friend living in the UK.

“I have to say this and if I say this finish, you are afraid to get angry, that’s your business. My guy in UK, just called me. Few minutes ago, he is from Imo State, educate,” he said.

He narrated that the friend had relocated his girlfriend from Nigeria to the UK, where the couple had been living for two years. According to him, the woman, an Igbo girl, had abandoned school to work as a nurse, earning about £2,500 monthly, while the man earned £2,700.

“He brought his girlfriend from Nigeria to UK, Igbo girl… UK is collecting 2,500 as a nurse… The boy is a nurse, the boy will collect 2,700,” he said, adding that their combined earnings amounted to about £5,200.

The speaker said the couple’s monthly bills stood at £2,300, and the man had asked his partner to contribute £1,000 while he covered the remaining £1,300. According to him, the woman paid her share for three months before her attitude allegedly changed.

“This girl paid this bill, 3 months, her attitude changed,” he stated, insisting that the man denied engaging in domestic violence and maintained that the only issue between them was the bill-sharing arrangement.

The video then shifted to another case which the narrator described as even more shocking. He claimed his friend had sent him a clip involving an Igbo man who had brought his partner to the UK, only to later discover through a DNA test that the child he was raising was not biologically his.

“He sent me a video… A video of a guy, Igbo guy, brought somebody in UK… The girl went and carried the bill from another man… The man found out, do DNA and confirm, say this girl is not his own,” he said.

According to the narration, despite not being responsible for the pregnancy, the man had been catering for both mother and child until the DNA result came to light. When he insisted that the baby be handed over to its biological father, tensions reportedly escalated.

The speaker further alleged that the woman went on to file a false rape allegation against another Nigerian man living peacefully with his wife, following suggestions from acquaintances seeking to pressure the child’s caretaker.

“This girl foolishly went and reported to the police in UK that this person, Nakam, can’t come inside the house without her giving her permission,” he added.

Diaspora NG reports that the issue has become a recurring topic within migrant communities, as rising costs of living and shifting gender expectations continue to reshape relationships among Nigerians in the UK.
