Video: ‘We’re here for no reason’ — Nigerians allege years-long detention in Indian prison

Some men believed to be Nigerians have cried out over what they described as prolonged incarceration in an Indian prison, claiming they have been held for between 10 and 12 years without justification.

The men, identified by their accents, made the allegation in a video posted on Facebook by a page known as Authentic Voice and sighted by Diaspora NG.

In the video, the visibly distressed individuals appealed for intervention, accusing authorities of refusing to conclude their cases or facilitate their return to Nigeria.

One of them was heard saying, “12 years, 10 years we are here for no reason. Close our case, send us home. They cannot allow. This is what they are doing to us. They lock us inside all.”

The speaker added that the video was recorded on January 31, 2026, while lamenting the condition under which they were being held.

Diaspora NG could not independently verify the authenticity of the video or the claims made by the men.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission had yet to react to the development.
