West Ham move for ex-Nigeria U23 star now playing for Canada

Premier League side West Ham United have reportedly opened talks over a possible deal to bring former Nigeria U23 forward Promise David to the London Stadium.

David, who was born in Ontario, featured twice for Nigeria’s U23s before switching allegiance to Canada, where he has scored three goals in eight games since his debut against Ukraine in June 2025.

According to Sky Sports UK, West Ham are assessing the possibility of signing the Royale Union Saint-Gilloise striker as they look to bolster their frontline.

The Hammers have struggled in attack this season, scoring just sixteen goals in fourteen league matches, with only Everton, Nottingham Forest, Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers registering fewer.

Manager Nuno Espírito Santo is expected to reshuffle his attack in the January window, especially with Niclas Füllkrug tipped to depart the club.

The London side will, however, have to fend off interest from other European teams also tracking the highly rated 23-year-old.

David joined Union SG from Estonian club Nõmme Kalju FC in the summer of 2024 and has since scored 34 goals in 63 appearances, including a decisive strike against Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League.
