Yoruba diaspora group lauds Nigeria–US security collaboration

The Yoruba World Congress Worldwide (YWC), a diaspora group representing Yoruba interests abroad, has commended the recent security partnership between Nigeria and the United States.

In a statement, the organisation congratulated the Nigerian government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as a successful intelligence-sharing arrangement aimed at strengthening national security and protecting citizens.

The statement, jointly signed by YWC’s Vice President, Engineer Adekunle Ogundana; Secretary General, Engineer Stephen Ajayi; and Mobilisation Director, J.P. Ade, also praised US President Donald J. Trump for his intervention in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

The group expressed satisfaction over the destruction of terrorist camps and the neutralisation of ISIS elements in Sokoto State, calling the development “encouraging” and a foundation for lasting peace within Nigeria and along its borders.

YWC urged the Federal Government to sustain the momentum by providing adequate protection across the country, with particular focus on Kogi, Kwara and Edo states. They highlighted the plight of the Okun people of Kogi, who have faced repeated terrorist attacks.

The diaspora group further called on the Nigerian government to cooperate fully with international partners in combating terrorism and to hold accountable anyone involved in supporting or facilitating attacks. They also stressed the importance of protecting displaced persons and restoring ancestral lands in North Central States.

Finally, YWC advised authorities to strengthen intelligence operations, enforce security proactively, and ensure that communities are safeguarded against militants, herders, and other criminal elements.
