Ambassador announces passport service upgrades, calls for early applications

The Acting Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, Samson Itegboje, has announced improvements in passport processing services and urged Nigerians in the diaspora to apply early to avoid delays.

Speaking during a virtual town hall meeting, which brought together hundreds of Nigerians across the U.S., Itegboje revealed that new passport printers have been installed at the Nigerian consulates in New York and Atlanta.

“This development significantly improves our service delivery,” Itegboje said.

He also cautioned Nigerians against last-minute passport and visa applications, noting that many applicants expect “magic” when applying at the last minute.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to the diaspora, Itegboje highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s foreign policy framework centered on Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora, the “4Ds.”

He emphasized the administration’s intent to leverage the diaspora’s influence to boost Nigeria’s international standing.

“No Nigerian should suffer due to avoidable service bottlenecks,” Itegboje added, assuring participants of ongoing efforts to streamline services and enhance transparency.

Itegboje also encouraged Nigerians abroad to engage positively and protect the country’s image.

Participants praised the missions for their professionalism during the session and pledged to support Nigeria’s interests in the United States, including active participation in the 2025 Independence Day Parade and Carnival in New York.
