Tragedy has struck the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom following the death of a young graduate, Edidion Effiong Okokon, who passed away just five months after earning his degree.
According to information shared by members of the Nigerian community in the UK, Okokon died on October 17 after a long battle with a lung disease.
Okokon, an international student at Teesside University, had arrived in the UK in January 2023 with hopes of building a successful future.
However, a few months into his studies, he was diagnosed with a severe lung condition that eventually claimed his life.
He reportedly completed his degree in May 2025 but never got the chance to enjoy the fruits of his academic success.
Friends and members of the Nigerian community have since launched efforts to raise funds to repatriate his remains to Nigeria for burial.
His death has left fellow students and Nigerians in the diaspora heartbroken, describing him as a vibrant and promising young man whose life was cut short too soon.
