The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has revoked more than 100,000 visas issued to foreigners, including Nigerians, within its first year in office.
The U.S. Department of State confirmed the development in a statement released on Monday.
According to the statement, the revocations included approximately 8,000 student visas and 2,500 specialised visas for individuals with previous encounters with U.S. law enforcement over criminal activity.
The department vowed to continue revoking visas and deporting individuals it described as threats, saying such measures are aimed at safeguarding American communities.
The total number of visa revocations under Trump’s first year marks a record high, reportedly twice the figure recorded under former President Joe Biden in 2024.
Trump, who returned to the White House in January 2025, had during his campaign pledged to implement the country’s largest deportation programme in recent history.
