Dabiri-Erewa condemns killing of Nigerian student in UK

The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has condemned the killing of a 20-year-old Nigerian student, Khaleed Oladipo, in Leicester, United Kingdom.

Oladipo, a second-year Cybersecurity student of De Montfort University, was reportedly stabbed to death while returning home to watch a football match.

In a statement issued by the commission’s spokesman, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa described the incident as devastating, noting that it represented a painful loss to the victim’s family and the Nigerian community both at home and abroad.

She called on British authorities to carry out a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that justice is served, while reaffirming NiDCOM’s commitment to protecting the welfare of Nigerians in the diaspora.

The commission also extended condolences to the family of the deceased, whom relatives described as a beloved son whose life was tragically cut short.

In a related development, NiDCOM condemned the killing of another Nigerian, Emeka Christian, who was allegedly beaten to death in India following a dispute involving family members.

According to the commission, Christian was reportedly attacked by two of his brothers during a disagreement over a romantic issue, prompting a call for urgent investigation by Indian authorities.

Dabiri-Erewa urged Nigerians living abroad to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid actions capable of tarnishing the country’s image, stressing that violence had no place within families or communities.

She added that NiDCOM would continue to engage with relevant authorities to ensure justice for affected families and promote unity and lawful conduct among Nigerians in the diaspora.
