A Nigerian national, Tochukwu Afame, has been arrested in India alongside an accomplice, Sunny Sharma, for allegedly trafficking cocaine concealed inside blood pressure monitors.
The suspects were apprehended during a police raid in Delhi, following intelligence linking them to a transnational drug distribution network, according to a report by Dainik Jagran.
Investigators said the syndicate employed a sophisticated concealment method, hiding cocaine inside the packaging of medical devices to evade routine security checks. The illicit consignments were reportedly transported via courier services from Delhi to Raipur and other destinations without raising suspicion.
Police authorities described the method as a calculated attempt to bypass detection, noting that the parcels were disguised as legitimate medical shipments.
The arrests followed weeks of investigation that began on March 19, when a suspect was intercepted near a hospital in Raipur’s Devendra Nagar area with a small quantity of cocaine. Subsequent intelligence gathering and interrogations exposed a wider network operating across multiple states.
Acting on the leads, security operatives tracked the supply chain to Delhi, where Afame also known as “Prince Charles” and Sharma were arrested in the Tilak Nagar area.
Sources said Afame is believed to have links with handlers based in Nigeria and had previously served a jail term in Delhi over visa-related offences. Both suspects reportedly admitted involvement in the drug trafficking operation during interrogation.
Investigators further revealed that the network was allegedly coordinated by a figure identified as “Chichi,” said to be operating from Nigeria, while local collaborators in India handled logistics, distribution and financial transactions.
Authorities disclosed that financial probes uncovered the use of bank accounts to channel illicit proceeds in exchange for commissions.
Items recovered during the operation included cash, mobile devices and other materials linked to the alleged operation, as anti-narcotics units intensify efforts to dismantle drug supply chains in the region.
Police said investigations were ongoing, with efforts underway to track additional members of the syndicate and uncover the full extent of the network’s operations.
The latest arrest comes just days after two other Nigerians were detained in separate anti-drug operations in India, highlighting growing concerns over international narcotics trafficking routes.
