NiDCOM, San José State University explore AI, tech training for Nigerian youths

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has initiated talks with the leadership of San José State University in the United States on a strategic partnership aimed at expanding educational, technological and cultural opportunities for Nigerians.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, met with the President of San José State University, Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, during a high-level engagement focused on strengthening collaboration between Nigeria and the United States.

A major outcome of the meeting was discussions on the proposed Silicon Valley Tech Bridge initiative, a specialised summer programme designed to expose young Nigerians to emerging technologies and innovation.

Under the proposal, participants will receive training in fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology and medical devices, while also gaining practical industry experience through placements and engagements with leading technology companies, including Adobe, LinkedIn and Jabil.

The programme is also expected to provide participants with networking opportunities through interactions with members of the Nigerian diaspora, particularly during Black Engineer Week.

Both parties further explored the possibility of establishing a Fulbright Leadership Exchange programme to strengthen academic and professional collaboration between institutions in Nigeria and the United States.

The discussions also covered cultural initiatives, including the creation of murals celebrating Nigeria’s heritage within the university community as part of efforts to promote cultural exchange.

NiDCOM said the proposed partnership aligns with its commitment to leveraging the expertise and networks of Nigerians in the diaspora to promote human capital development and create lasting links between the country and global centres of innovation and excellence.
