A Nigerian-American dentist is redefining the future of oral health with a wellness-driven approach that blends innovation and science.
Dr. Abi Oladele, a Howard University alumna, has launched Dentrogen, a company designed to help people achieve optimal oral care from the comfort of their homes.
Dr. Oladele, who fell in love with dentistry for its combination of art and science, said her vision extends beyond traditional dental treatment.
“Dentrogen was created with one purpose, to redefine the future of oral care. Most people don’t realize how much dentistry still relies on outdated tools and thinking. I knew I didn’t just want to treat patients, I wanted to change the dental experience,” she told her followers on Instagram.
The dentist, who is part of the small cohort of Black dental professionals, making up only 3.7 per cent of the industry according to the Delta Dental Institute, conceived the idea for Dentrogen in 2022 while working at a practice in Los Angeles.
The company officially launched in January, offering science-backed products that tie oral health to overall wellness.
Dentrogen’s lineup includes Black Fiber Coconut Floss and Elemental Brightening Toothpaste, formulated to prevent dental problems before they start.
The products feature natural ingredients such as aloe vera for gum comfort, and coconut oil and bamboo in its floss to enhance daily oral hygiene routines.
“How about health is the aesthetic? Having healthy teeth, free from gum disease and cavities, is the true beauty. That’s what I wanted Dentrogen to showcase,” Dr. Oladele said in an interview with AfroTech.
Looking ahead, Dr. Oladele plans to expand Dentrogen’s offerings and integrate AI into the company’s operations, while exploring dental manufacturing and supply innovations.
“Oral care can be smarter, cleaner, and better,” she added. “Dentrogen isn’t just a company, it’s a platform for change.”
