Nigerian-British Afrobeat artist Akintayo Abolaji Adeboyejo, popularly known as Tiyo Kay, has unveiled his latest single titled “Gbe.”
The song holds special meaning for the singer, as it was created during his recovery from an injury. Speaking about the inspiration behind the release, Tiyo Kay revealed, “I underwent ACL reconstruction surgery in August 2024, and while recuperating, I connected with my producer Tyemmy. Together, we crafted the record purely based on vibes.”
He added, “The track has an infectious rhythm and a catchy hook that every music lover can easily sing along to.”
Reflecting on his musical journey, Tiyo Kay shared, “My passion for music started at a very young age. I used to sing along to Backstreet Boys and Westlife when I was around eight years old. Writing songs began as a playful activity, but I took it seriously when I recorded my debut single ‘Love You’ in 2014 under the stage name Ty P.”
Describing the distinctiveness of his sound, Tiyo Kay said, “My music style is unique—I aim to create a sound that’s unmistakably mine. When people hear my songs, I want them to immediately recognize it as a Tiyo Kay record, not something that sounds like another artist.”
He encouraged listeners to experience his music and form their own opinions: “The way I compose and deliver my songs is quite different from typical Afrobeat tracks.”
Tiyo Kay also teased more music on the horizon, promising additional singles after Gbe and revealing that he is currently working on an EP with much more to come.
