Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu enlists in US Army, dedicates milestone to late father

Popular Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu has joined the United States Army, describing his enlistment as a fulfilment of a long-held dream and a tribute to the memory of his late father.

The actor announced the development on Friday through his Instagram page, where he shared photographs of himself in military uniform alongside an image of his late father.

Reflecting on the journey, Momodu said earning his place in the US Army came after weeks of rigorous physical and mental training that tested his resilience and determination.

According to him, the achievement was the product of sacrifice, discipline and perseverance despite moments of self-doubt.

“From inception, I have always believed in achievements earned through merit, which is why I constantly push myself beyond limits,” he wrote.

He added that the training involved enduring physical exhaustion, harsh weather conditions and long periods away from family and friends.

“We trained tirelessly, were broken down and rebuilt. I went to sleep a civilian and woke up a soldier. Ten weeks of being incommunicado. Ten weeks of learning to find comfort in discomfort,” he said.

Momodu disclosed that he completed his basic combat training on April 12, 2026, a date that coincided with the 20th anniversary of his father’s death.

He said the milestone was particularly significant because it allowed him to continue the legacy of his late father, who served in the Nigeria Police Force.

“On April 12, 2026, I honoured my late father in a historic way. Twenty years after his passing, I picked up the baton where he left off in the Nigeria Police Force and carried it forward by enlisting in the United States Army,” he stated.

The actor revealed that he now serves as Specialist J.A. Momodu with the 1st Platoon, Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

He dedicated the achievement to God, his late father and the royal family of Oba Momodu II of the Avyuele Clan in Agbede, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Momodu also expressed appreciation to the US Army Recruiting Station in Burbank, California, and everyone who supported him throughout the enlistment process.

His enlistment adds to the growing number of Nigerian entertainers who have joined the US military.

In 2025, actress Grace Bassey, formerly known as Belinda Effah, announced her enlistment in the United States Navy after completing boot camp and obtaining US citizenship.

Other Nollywood personalities who have also joined the US Army include actresses Princess Chineke and Mayowa Dosu.
