The Pretoria Magistrates Court on Tuesday postponed proceedings in the case involving six suspects accused of killing a Nigerian e-hailing driver, Isaac Setlat, to allow for further investigations.
Presiding magistrate Aubrey Mphalele granted the adjournment after the defendants withdrew their bail applications during their court appearance.
The matter was subsequently shifted to June for continuation.
Five of the accused, Dikeledi Mphela, Goitsione Machidi, McClaren Mushwana, Tumishang Mabutlane and Ofentse Senwamadi, are facing charges of premeditated murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
The sixth defendant, Thabang Mothwa, is charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Counsel to the accused, Thabiso Mphahlele, told the court that his clients were prepared to respond to the charges.
“We have indicated to the prosecution that the accused intend to plead to all charges preferred against them, particularly accused number four,” he said, adding that the case might be transferred to the High Court once the indictment is ready.
Diaspora NG reports that Setlat, a Nigerian national working as an e-hailing driver in South Africa, was reportedly killed in February after passengers allegedly attacked and strangled him in an incident said to have been captured on camera.
