US ICE nabs Nigerian over alleged identity theft, fraud

The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested a Nigerian national, Etinosa Osahon, over alleged involvement in identity theft, bank fraud and possession of stolen mail.

In a statement shared on its official X handle on Saturday, the agency said Osahon, 49, was apprehended by ICE operatives in Los Angeles on May 21 and has been placed in custody pending removal proceedings.

According to the agency, the Nigerian national has a criminal record linked to stealing and possession of stolen mail, aggravated identity theft and bank fraud.

“ICE Los Angeles arrested Etinosa Osahon, 49, of Nigeria, May 21,” the statement read.

The agency added that Osahon remained in ICE custody while immigration authorities processed his possible deportation from the United States.

The arrest comes amid a series of crackdowns by US authorities on fraud-related offences involving foreign nationals.

In recent months, several Nigerians have also been arrested or convicted in different countries over alleged cybercrime, romance scams and financial fraud-related offences.
