Schools, parents and students interested in participating in the 2027 International STEM Olympiad will be able to begin registration after August 15, 2026, organisers have announced.
The registration exercise will commence ahead of the new academic session following the conclusion of the 2026 International STEM Olympiad and Coding Olympiad Grand Final held in Rome, Italy, between July 2 and July 8.
The organisers disclosed the development in a statement published on their official examination platform, noting that the 2026 edition attracted 1,154 participants and guests from 54 countries.
They also confirmed that the 2027 Grand Final would be hosted in Lisbon, Portugal, urging students worldwide to begin preparations for the next competition cycle.
The International STEM Olympiad is a global academic competition designed to promote excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics through practical problem-solving and critical thinking rather than rote learning.
Organised by Germany-based Main Team Organisation GmbH, the programme provides students with opportunities to compete internationally while developing analytical, logical and innovative skills.
According to the organisers, the competition is open to students in Grades 1 to 12, regardless of nationality, with participants required to register according to their current grade level.
The Olympiad features three categories—Mathematics, Science, and Technology and Engineering. While Mathematics and Science are open to students in Grades 1 to 12, Technology and Engineering is available to students in Grades 6 to 11. The Coding Olympiad has now been separated from the main STEM competition and operates independently.
To register, applicants are expected to create an account on the official student portal, select their preferred competition category or categories, complete the registration process, pay the prescribed fee and choose an examination date once announced. Organisers noted that candidates may enter multiple categories, but each requires a separate registration fee, which is non-refundable.
The competition will be conducted in four stages: the online Qualification Round, the Final Round, the Best of the Best Global Round for outstanding Mathematics and Science contestants, and the physical Grand Final for successful finalists.
Each examination will last 60 minutes and consist of 25 questions, while participants in the Best of the Best Global Round will answer 30 questions.
The organisers said all examinations would be conducted under strict online supervision. Candidates will be required to use devices with functioning cameras throughout the tests, while those participating in the Best of the Best Global Round must operate with two active cameras.
They warned that calculators, books, dictionaries, printed materials, artificial intelligence tools and additional browser tabs are prohibited during the examinations. Candidates found violating the rules risk immediate disqualification and cancellation of their results.
Outstanding participants will receive digital certificates, while top performers in the Final Round will be awarded gold medals and Certificates of Achievement. Students will also be recognised in Gold, Silver, Bronze and Honourable Mention categories based on their overall performance.
In addition, winners will qualify for discounts to attend the 2027 Grand Final in Portugal, with first-place winners receiving a 75 per cent discount, second-place winners 50 per cent and third-place winners 25 per cent.
The organisers added that detailed registration procedures, examination schedules and access to the registration portal would be released when registration officially opens after August 15, 2026.
