John Fashanu disowns daughter’s claims, removes her from company

Former England international and television personality, John Fashanu, has dismissed allegations made by his daughter, Amal, in a recent media interview, describing the claims as false and announcing her removal from his company.

In a statement made available to Daily Sun, the ex-footballer denied assertions attributed to Amal in a report published by the Daily Mail, including claims that she frequently visited him in Nigeria, managed his affairs and that he suffered brain injuries linked to his football career.

Fashanu also refuted reports that he had been married five times, insisting that he had only three wives and is currently married to his third wife, Vivian Fashanu.

According to him, Amal may have mistakenly included her mother among his former spouses despite the fact that they were never legally married.

The former Gladiators host further disclosed that his wife had recently appointed Amal as a director and shareholder in his company in a bid to strengthen family ties, but alleged that the gesture was later abused.

He also denied a previous report published by Daily Mail suggesting Amal once acted as his agent for television engagements, including Dancing on Ice.

“I want to address some of the claims recently made in the media by my daughter Amal and published in the Daily Mail. They are simply false,” Fashanu said.

He maintained that Amal had not been visiting him regularly in Nigeria as claimed and stated that her recent trip to the country was the first time she had visited him there.

The former footballer also denied suffering any neurological condition associated with repeated heading of footballs during his playing days.

“I have not suffered injuries from heading footballs, nor do I have any medical condition of the kind implied in her recent reports. I am perfectly fine,” he added.

Fashanu, however, acknowledged that his daughter may still be emotionally affected by his past relationship with her mother, stating that he understood the sensitivity of such family matters.

Despite expressing continued love for his daughter, he said he would maintain distance from her due to what he described as repeated violations of personal boundaries.

The former Wimbledon striker also revealed that he was considering legal action against the Daily Mail over the publication, accusing the newspaper of failing to contact him for verification before publishing the claims.

“I will be carefully considering a defamation claim against the Daily Mail and reporting the matter to the UK press regulator. Nobody contacted me to verify the facts before publication,” he stated.

Fashanu added that he had faced several legal disputes in recent months, particularly concerning land-related matters, but insisted he remained focused on other productive ventures.
