Nigerian forward Victor Udoh dies at 21

Nigerian football has been thrown into mourning following the death of former Southampton F.C. and Royal Antwerp F.C. forward, Victor Udoh, who died at the age of 21.

Reports indicated that the young striker was found dead in Abuja, although the circumstances surrounding his death remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the cause of death.

Udoh had recently returned to Nigeria after ending his spell with Czech club SK Dynamo České Budějovice, where he continued his professional career following his departure from Southampton in 2025.

The late footballer joined Southampton on a three-and-a-half-year contract amid high expectations but spent only seven months at the club without making a senior appearance before both parties agreed to part ways.

Before his move to England, Udoh rose to prominence at Royal Antwerp after joining the Belgian side from Abuja-based academy Hypebuzz.

He impressed at reserve level, scoring 12 goals in 21 appearances, performances that earned him promotion to Antwerp’s senior team, where he made 28 appearances.

Widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s emerging football talents, Udoh’s career had shown promising growth across Europe before his untimely death.

His passing has since triggered an outpouring of grief among football fans and stakeholders, many of whom are awaiting further details surrounding the tragic incident.
