FG mourns Nigerian medical graduate killed in Russian airstrike, seeks details

The Federal Government has expressed grief over the death of a 23-year-old Nigerian medical graduate, Nnani Marian, who reportedly died after sustaining injuries during a Russian airstrike in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the development in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, extending condolences to the deceased’s family over the tragic loss.

According to the ministry, Marian, a graduate of Kharkiv National Medical University, succumbed to injuries sustained during the aerial bombardment.

The government prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and asked God to grant her family the strength to cope with the loss.

The ministry also disclosed that it was working with relevant authorities, as well as Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in Ukraine and Germany, to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and provide necessary consular support to the bereaved family.

Reaffirming Nigeria’s concern over the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Federal Government decried the continued loss of civilian lives.

It renewed its call on all parties involved in the conflict to embrace dialogue and diplomacy in resolving their differences, in line with international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.

The ministry further assured Nigerians that the government remained committed to safeguarding the welfare of its citizens abroad and would continue to monitor developments while providing appropriate assistance through its diplomatic missions.
